Your Fundamental Legal Rights
• Right to File a Zero FIR
A victim can file a FIR at any police station, regardless of where the incident occurred. The police must register it as a 'Zero FIR' and then transfer it to the police station with appropriate jurisdiction.
• Protection Under IPC
Verbal harassment, stalking, voyeurism, and demanding sexual favors are all distinct criminal offenses with severe penalties.
• Right to Privacy
The identity of a victim of sexual offenses must be protected by the police and the media.
✅ What to Do (Immediate Actions)
- Call the Women’s Helpline number (1091) or the emergency number (112) immediately.
- Use the 'Panic Button' feature on smartphones or SOS apps.
- Raise an alarm loudly to draw the attention of bystanders.
⛔ What NOT to Do
- Do not ignore chronic stalking or repeated harassment; report it early.
- Do not let the police dismiss the complaint; insist on filing an FIR or write directly to the Superintendent of Police (SP).

Authority: Women's Helpline / Local Police
Process: Call the helpline immediately during an active threat. To file formal charges, visit any police station and file an FIR/Zero FIR under IPC Section 354.

Authority: National Commission for Women (NCW)
Process: If the police refuse to register an FIR or take action, you can register a formal complaint with the NCW online, and they will intervene and pressure the police to act.
